‘Festive Season Operations’ yields success in Victoria West

The Festive Season operation focused on a multidisciplinary approach with a roadblock that was held on the N12 South between Victoria West and Three Sisters, on 18 December 2020.

The roadblock was led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner in the Northern Cape, Maj Gen Henriette De Waal with SAPS members from Pixley Ka Seme Cluster, surrounding police stations, K9 unit, VCIU, POPS, Highway Patrol, Immigration Services, NC and WC Provincial Traffic and the Fire Department.

The team searched 218 motor vehicles, close to 400 persons and issued fines to the value of R30 000-00. Busses, taxis and trucks were searched by Dog handlers with trained narcotics and explosives police dogs. Motorist were also educated on how to arrive safely at their destination by a Road Safety Officer from Beaufort West.

The members from the Fire Department did compliance checks on large tankers carrying fuel and other flammable substances while all the motorists were served with pamphlets pertaining to safety hints for the Festive Season.

“Maj Gen De Waal reiterated that the SAPS and all other relevant role players will be out in full force to ensure we have a “tight grip” on all criminal activities during this Festive season and beyond”.
