An 81 year old farmer from Hartswater is currently receiving medical attention after being “hit with shovels and sprayed with poison” during a farm attack early this morning, 5 September 2018.

John Byles, 81, was attacked on the farm, Tadcaster, situated between Jan Kempdorp and Hartswater, at around 07:00 after two unknown suspects overpowered him while he was unlocking the farm’s barn.

Byles, who was hit with shovels, sustained serious injuries to his head and face during the attack and lost some teeth. The two attackers also sprayed his entire body with Roundup weed poison, before fleeing on foot, with two cellphones and Byles’ wallet.

The injured Byles managed to alert some farm workers, who in turn contacted neighbours to assist him. He was taken to a local doctor, where he is currently receiving medical attention. It has been reported that Byles was foaming at the mouth as a reaction to the weed poison.
