Farming communities of Calvinia in the Namaqua Cluster, can now have a peace of mind after 29 year old Augus Snyders, accused of stealing livestock was convicted. Augus was convicted by the Calvinia Magistrate’s Court on three counts of stock theft and two counts of house breaking.

In November, December 2018 and April 2019, Augus was arrested subsequent to be in possession of stolen sheep. The sheep were stolen in and around farming communities of Calvinia, and in the event broke into residential premises and stole properties.

Early this week the Calvinia Magistrate’s Court sentenced Augus effective five years imprisonment without an option of paying a fine.

He was sentenced as follows;

Count 1- Housebreaking and Theft (3- years imprisonment)
Count 2- Housebreaking and Theft (3- years imprisonment)
Count 3- Stock Theft (5- years imprisonment)
Count 4- Stock Theft (5- years imprisonment)
Count 5- Stock Theft (5- years imprisonment)

The magistrate ordered that the sentences should ran concurrently, the accused was declared unfit to possess a firearms.

The South African Police Management in the Northern Cape welcomed the sentence handed down against Augus.
