A farm attack took place on 8 June 2023, at about 23:00, in Askham, about 200 km north of Upington, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.

A farmer, Andre du Toit (54), was shot on his farm when he went out to investigate a noise.

When the farmer got to his butchery store the attacker opened fire with a pistol.

The farmer who was armed returned fire but it is unknown whether the attacker, who fled, was wounded.

Andre du Toit’s wife, Cilla, managed to load him into their vehicle and drove all the way to Upington for medical assistance.

He is currently in a stable condition in hospital.

It was reported on social media that the suspect was arrested during a follow up operation.

This is an unfolding story.
