The efforts of the police to eradicate drugs in our communities had a positive result when a suspected drug laboratory was closed down in the morning on 18 January 2020, at West End in Kimberley.

The Organised Crime Unit from Northern Cape Provincial Detectives under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Doggie Magugu operationalised information received about a flat used as a drug lab. Upon searching the said premises the members found drugs, chemicals, scales, packaging equipment and various empty chemical containers.

The flat was cleaned out and all confiscated drugs and equipment are estimated to the value of R10 million.

While the police were busy with the search, a suspicious person was noticed passing near the flat and was immediately stopped and searched. Tik drugs with an estimated street value of R2 500 were found in his possession. The 33 year old suspect is arrested and is expected to appear before Magistrates’ Court soon on a charge of dealing in drugs.

The Provincial Commissioner of Northern Cape Province Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has commended the members for a sterling work done and the vigilance they displayed while conducting operations.
