The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola welcomes the arrest of a drug dealer after a consignment of dagga was confiscated at vehicle check point in Kimberley on 31 December 2023. During New Year’s Eve crime prevention duties, a bakkie with a trailer was stopped at a vehicle check point in Kimberley.

Members searched the four large crates on the trailer and discovered a consignment of dagga.

Provincial Organised Crime Unit are investigating a case of illegal dealing in drugs after the 47-year-old driver, who is a National from Swaziland, was arrested.

He will be appearing in court soon.

A total of 663,35kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R1,4 million was seized.

The bakkie, valued at approximately R400 000 and the trailer valued at approximately R45 000 were also seized.

Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Johan Bean commended the members for their vigilance and zero tolerance approach towards drug related crimes.
