Northern Cape Provincial Trio Crime Task Team, busted a 28 year old man with mandrax, in the Kimberley Central Business District (CBD). The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 26 September 2018. Members of the Trio Crime Task Team observed the suspect during a drug transaction from his vehicle, which was parked in Southey Street.

The suspect fled on foot when he realised that the police approached him. He was chased on foot as he ran into his apartment, situated in the CBD, and was arrested before he could lock himself inside the apartment.

Upon a thorough search of his apartment, a total of 1252 suspected mandrax tablets were found hidden in the bedroom. Further investigation led to the discovery of 102 mandrax tablets which were found stashed inside his vehicle.

Police confiscated the suspect’s vehicle as it was used during the commission of a crime. Drugs with an estimated street value of R50, 000 were confiscated. The suspect is facing charges of possession of drugs and is expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 28 September 2018.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Peter Shivuri, issued a stern warning against the drug peddlers. “Police officers will ensure that the drug peddlers do not operate in the neighbourhood”, he said. He continued to make a clarion call to the community members to work in partnership with the police to uproot criminal activities within our communities.
