KIMBERLEY – The Tsineng Police have launched a murder investigation following a fatal shooting incident between Ganap and Laxey Village in the early hours of Saturday, 14 June 2025.
According to reports, approximately six suspects attempted to break into a local tuck shop around 04:20. A group of community members confronted them, prompting the suspects to flee.
It is alleged that one of the suspects then stopped a vehicle near the scene and shot the 38-year-old driver and his 32-year-old passenger. The suspect reportedly failed to start the vehicle and abandoned it before escaping. The passenger died at the scene, while the driver later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Authorities immediately activated a 72-hour plan, deploying specialized units and resources to track down the suspects. Following intelligence-led operations, police raided a residence in Mothibistad at approximately 23:20, arresting three men aged between 27 and 39 in connection with the incident.
Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, praised the police team for their swift response and successful apprehension of the suspects.
