The Police welcome the sentencing that was handed down to a Windsorton man in the Northern Cape High Court in Kimberley, on 22 September 2020. Michael Pietersen (36) was given two life sentences for the murder of his 18-year-old girlfriend and 18-month-old son. He also received a further 5 years imprisonment for defeating the ends of justice which will run concurrently with the double life sentence.

On 12 May 2020 at about 10:00 police found the burnt bodies of Kantse Mokgele and little Neo Mokgele, in a veld near Van Zoelenslagte in Windsorton. It was found that both the deceased had several stab wounds and was burnt by the accused. The accused was arrested hours after the bodies were discovered and he remained in custody up until his sentencing.

“The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Phiwe Mnguni commended D/Const Zamile Mgwevu of Windsorton SAPS Detectives, for his meticulous investigations and a job well done. Having heartless criminals such as Michael Pietersen behind bars surely makes the community more safe and secure, as one of the SAPS’ main priorities are crimes against vulnerable groups such as our women and children.”
