Department of health serious corruption, Northern Cape

Four out of the six suspects arrested in a project driven investigation by the Northern Cape Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation appeared briefly at the Kimberley Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Victor Kenner Nyokong (36), Walter Senoko (51), Lebogang Lefifi (31) and Nthabiseng Magano (43) were granted R50 000 bail each with strict conditions.

The other two remaining suspects who cannot be named, were remanded in custody after their legal representative failed to arrive on time. Their destiny will be decided this coming Friday, 22 June 2018, when they will be making a fresh bid for bail, whilst the other four are expected in court on 12 July 2018.

The Hawks with the assistance of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested the six suspects in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Kimberley on Monday following allegations of gross irregularities in the awarding of various at the Northern Cape Department of Health from 2013 to 2016.

At least R11 million was allegedly apportioned amongst the six suspects and their companies to procure medical equipment.

The National Head of the DPCI Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has commended the arrest of the six suspects and is looking forward to a successful prosecution.
