The SAPS welcomes the rape sentencing that was handed down to a 28 year old Delportshoop man. Andrew Malgas Snyers was recently sentenced in the Barkly West Regional Court to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for the rape of a 19 year old female.

During the evening of 5 April 2013, the female was accosted in a field near Protea Hof in Delportshoop, where the accused assaulted and raped her. The accused was unknown to the victim but due to thorough investigation by the Delportshoop Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) Andrew Malgas Snyers was arrested on 6 April 2016. The accused was found guilty in Court and sentenced seven years later.

“The SAPS Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills lauds D/Sgt Aretha Claasen for a brilliant job done. It is with pride that we see our members working extremely hard to remove criminals from our streets. The convictions result in justice for the victims concerned and the community feel safer when the perpetrators are incarcerated. It also sends out a stern message and when you do crime, you will do the time. Especially as we are celebrating Women’s Month.”
