Kimberley Magistrates Court sentenced a 42-year-old former Crime Intelligence administrator, Christopher Sebastian Johnson for defeating the ends of justice.

During April 2021, the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team conducted an operation where eight suspects were arrested in connection with drug trafficking allegations.

After the arrest, cell phone records of the syndicate members were downloaded for further investigation.

The team discovered confidential pictures of planned operation documents on the suspects’ cell phones.

An enquiry was opened for further investigation which led the team to a Public Service Act (PSA) member attached to Provincial Crime Intelligence and was later arrested.

Mr. Johnson was convicted in April 2023 after a lengthy trial.

The member was dismissed from the service as a result of his conduct

On Thursday, 1 June 2023, Mr. Johnson was then sentenced to six years imprisonment of which two years is suspended for a period of five years without the option of a fine.

He will serve four years direct imprisonment.

He is further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
