The Kathu Regional court handed down an 8 year direct prison sentence to 21-year-old accused, Ronald Olyn and an additional 5 year suspended sentence to 18-year-old rape accused, Quinton Penny for rape on Monday, 17 April 2023.
The two accused were on trial for raping a 24-year-old female victim in Deben on Friday, 27 November 2020.
The court heard that the female victim was walking home alone from a local establishment.
She was then accosted by the two young males who dragged her to a dark place and took turns in raping her.
The Provincial Head for FCS, Brigadier Sipho Kheswa applauded the investigation officer, Detective Sergeant Maletsatse Smous for the thorough investigation of the case and ensuring that perpetrators of GBVF are dealt with harshly.
