Death of girl (14): Commissioner calls for calm as post mortem results released

Post mortem results have been released on 11 November 2020, in connection with the death of a 14-year-old female. The post mortem results indicate that the cause of death is organ failure due to the indigestion of the irritant or an unknown substance.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Major General Phiwe Mnguni has assured the community that investigations are continuing and appealed for calmness.

On Friday 6 November 2020, the deceased had a fight with a 15-year-old male who choked her. She was also allegedly choked by the father of the 15-year-old male. The fight was reportedly stopped and the victim went home. On Saturday evening 7 November, the deceased complained of stomach pains and was admitted in Hospital for treatment on Sunday, 8 November and unfortunately passed away on Monday, 9 November, hence the inquest docket.

The video clip which was circulating on social media showing a female being thrown on the floor is not that of the deceased as confirmed by her parents.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner has strongly condemned the circulation of fake news as they tend to stir the emotions of the community.

The community will be kept abreast with the inquest investigation.
