The police welcomes the life sentence that was handed down to Frans Nel (26) for the rape of a 47-year-old female in the De Aar Regional Court on 28 April 2022.
On 1 March 2020 the accused and the victim were on their way to purchase some beers when the accused forcefully dragged the female into an old municipal building.
Frans Nel raped the victim twice and fled the scene.
He was traced and arrested on a farm 25km from Phillipstown on 22 March 2020. He remained in custody for the duration of the trial until his sentencing.
The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences, Brig Nicky Mills commended D/WO Edwin Mokgalagadi from the De Aar FCS unit for his meticulous investigation that led to the lifelong incarceration of the perpetrator.
