Clampdown on criminals, Kimberley CBD

The Frances Baard Cluster in joint operation with Department of Correctional Services officials, Sol Plaatje Municipality law enforcement officers, Home Affairs officers and Crime Intelligence unit, clampdown on criminals during a search and cordon off operation in the Kimberley CBD, on Thursday, 24 May 2018.

Craven taxi rank and flea market in Stockdale Street was identified as one of the hot spots areas in which criminal activities are rive. The focus of the operation was to search for wanted suspects, illegal firearms, undocumented persons, stolen good, compliance inspection on second hand goods dealers, illicit drugs.

During the operation Craven taxi rank and flea market were cordoned off and more than 400 persons were searched, 60 second hand goods dealers were inspected for compliance.

We also confiscated six cellular phones which are suspected to be stolen, including a carton of illicit cigarettes.

High visibility of law enforcement agencies in the Kimberley CBD, brought a sense of hope to the patrons and on the other hand the space in which the criminals were operating was squeezed as we were all over the CBD.

Eight undocumented person were arrested and charged on Immigration Act. They will appear before the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court.
