The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape Province and Botswana Police continued with crime prevention endeavours to combat crimes at Middleputs, Twee Rivieren, Gemsbok and Mccarthy’s Rust Ports of entries, in both countries.

The Cross Border Operation which kick started on Thursday 27 June until 29 June 2019, was the continuation of existing crime prevention strategy, whereby police from both countries joined forces to police the borderlines. The policing focus of the operation was to prevent illegal transportation of livestock, wild animals in and out of both countries, transportation of stolen goods which includes illegal firearms, stolen vehicles, combat illegal hunting, human and drug trafficking.

Both police from South Africa and Botswana had deployed optimum human and physical resources, which includes K9 unit, Crime Intelligence Unit, Corporate Communication, Visible Police, Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, Mounted Unit including Northern Cape Provincial Traffic Officers to enhance the success of the operation across the ports of entries.

During the Operation we conducted Vehicle Check Points (VCP) more than 350 vehicles were searched, more than 300 persons were searched and more than 10 farms were visited to ensure compliance. Fines to the value of more than R3000 were issued against motorists who violated Road Traffic Act, for driving motor vehicle without driver’s licences or driving none-roadworthy vehicles.

A dagga to the value of R4000 was confiscated on a farm near Mccarthy’s Rust, no suspect could be linked to the dagga.

The Cluster Commander of the John Taolo Gaetsewe, Major General Johan Bean commended the South African Police in the Northern Cape including Botswana Police from Tsabong, for their efforts to ensure that crime is prevented across borders of both countries.
