The SAPS welcomes the life sentence that was handed down to a 38-year-old Carnavon male in the De Aar Regional Court.

On 11 September 2022 at 21:00 the 19-year-old female came from a funeral and found the house locked. She decided to go sleep in her brother’s shanty at the back of the house.

The brother returned home and forcefully raped his sister.

He fell asleep and the victim went to report the matter to the police.

He was arrested the next day and remained in custody up until 27 October 2022 when he confessed to committing the crime.

The accused was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The court also declared him unfit to carry a firearm and his name will be entered in the register for sexual offenders.

The Acting Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS), Col Sipho Kheswa applauded D/Sgt Marlon Eksteen from De Aar FCS for a job well done.

Crimes against women and children remains one of the priorities of the SAPS and the life sentence should send out a clear message that no impunity will be granted to perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
