The Provincial Head of the FCS units in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills lauded Sergeant Cindy de Jong for the outstanding sentence that was handed down to rapist, MacDonald Riet on 29 January 2021, in the Barkly-West Regional Court. Riet was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment.

The conviction follows after the 18-year-old female victim who was raped three times in September 2018 after the accused accosted her at a shop in Barkly-West and dragged her to his shack where he assaulted and raped.

The Galeshewe FCS commander, Lieutenant Colonel Marli Strydom commended Sergeant de Jong for the meticulous and thorough investigation of the case which led to the incarceration of the rapist.
