The Provincial Head of the FSC units in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills welcomed the 8 year prison sentence handed down to a 42 year man who attempted to rape his then 8 year old biological daughter during February 2019 at their home in Carnarvon.

The father threatened to sexually abuse his daughter on several occasions during February 2019 at their home. He also threatened her to keep it secret and not to inform anyone.

During the evening of 22 February 2019, the victim made a bed on the floor while her brother slept on the bed. While sleeping her father again attempted to rape her but the victim’s brother intervened. He went to report the incident at the police station and the accused was arrested the same evening.

The accused remained in custody until he was sentenced on 11 August 2021 in the Carnarvon Regional court to 8 years imprisonment for Attempted Rape and his name was recorded in the National Sexual Offences Register.

Brigadier Mills applauded the investigating officer, Constable Leevirne Raaf of the Carnarvon FCS unit for the meticulous investigation of the case and also thanked the Prosecutor, Mr Van Wyk for his contribution in securing the judgement. He also pleaded with the community to report and reject abusers- ACT and don’t look away. Do not protect abusers, report them.
