The Police welcome the sentence that was handed down to Meshack Marumo (35) in the Kuruman Regional Court recently. The accused was initially charged with rape but was found guilty of attempted rape and received 10 years imprisonment on 11 April 2019.

On 2 July 2016 at about 17:00 the 11 year old female victim was on her way home from the shop when she was accosted by this unknown man in Seven Miles Village, near Mothibistad. Marumo dragged her into a nearby toilet and attempted to rape her.

The victim fought back, screamed and was eventually helped by a passer-by. Marumo was arrested the same day with the help of the community.

“The Cluster Commander for the John Taolo Gaetsewe Cluster, Major General Johan Bean lauds D/Sgt Tebogo Nowalaza of the Kuruman SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit for a job well done. He also thanked the community for their assistance in this regard. This is partnership policing at its best.”
