Armed robbery at a Prieska mine, 5 arrested

The Prieska SAPS are investigating a case of armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen goods. This came after five men allegedly entered a local mine in the early hours of Saturday, 22 September 2018 and threatened the security with firearms.

The suspects allegedly fled with copper cables worth approximately R100 000. The Prieska SAPS circulated the incident to all surrounding stations and the five suspects were arrested at a roadblock in Hopetown, hours later.

Police confiscated the white Toyota Fortuner and also found a grinder in the vehicle. The five male suspects appeared briefly in the Prieska Magistrates Court and the case was postponed for the 16 October 2018, for a formal bail application.

The Pixley Ka Seme Cluster Commander, Brigadier Nomahlubi Sofika commended the members for their lighting fast response that led to this superb arrest. The investigation continues.
