Armed robbers storm Markhams, Kathu Mall, 1 shot, Kuruman

Three suspects aged between 39 and 30 are set to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate Court on Tuesday facing charges of armed robbery, stolen property and possession of unlicensed firearms.

It is alleged that on Saturday 22 August 2020, a group of armed robbers stormed into Markhams at Kathu Mall and managed to get away with cellphones, clothing and cash.

Later on Sunday another Markham store was robbed and the same modus operandi was used. A number of cellphones stolen.

A joint investigating team comprising of the Kuruman Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Prevention, Public Order Policing and Kuruman K9 followed up on information and it led the team to a house at Maruping village.

Three suspects were cornered, one of whom was shot on the shoulder after he attempted to run away.

Inside the house the members managed to recover a 9mm pistol, safe keys, cellphones, 3 Markhams jackets, pairs of running shoes, cellphone jammer device and cash.

The suspects will appear before the Kathu Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 25 August 2020. Investigations are still continuing.
