The American company, Amazon Web Service, has set up its first solar farm in South Africa and is operational.

The huge 10 Megawatt (MW) solar power generation project was set up in the Northern Cape and forms part of the country’s 2030 renewable power generation project.

With the rich sunlight that the Northern Cape offers, the project can supply power to about 8,000 average dwellings of South Africa.

More than 24,000 solar panels are in the solar farm project which is one of the largest projects of its kind in the province.

The solar farm covers an area of more than 20 hectares, and it will avoid about 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide caused by coal.
