Abduction and gang rape of girl (17) – 3 arrested, Hopetown

The Hopetown detectives made a breakthrough by locking up three men accused of raping a 17-year-old girl. The suspects had been hiding from the authorities, subsequent to raping the victim.

The three were arrested in Hopetown early on the morning of 31 March 2021, during suspect tracing operations. It is reported that early this month the three men abducted the victim, forced her inside a shack in Hopetown, where they took turns to rape her.

The suspects aged 22, 28 and 33 are expected to appear before the Hopetown Magistrate’s Court soon on counts of rape and abduction.

The Northern Cape police management condemns acts of violence against women and children. The South African Police Service is committed to uproot perpetrators of Gender Based Violence and bring them to book.
