The sterling and meticulous investigative work conducted by Detective Sergeant Lebogang Lekoma of Kimberley Detectives paid off when the Kimberley Regional Court sentenced 28 year old Joseph Allan Maijane to a total of 45 years imprisonment for rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Maijane was found guilty earlier last week on three charges of which one was rape and two of assault GBH. He was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for rape and 10 years each for Assault GBH. In terms of section 103 Act 60 of 2000, the accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm and the sentences will run concurrently.

He was arrested on 22 March 2015 after he assaulted a 19 year old woman with a beer bottle before raping her at knife point.

The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Brigadier Mills welcomed the sentence and commended Detective Sergeant Lekoma for his dedication in conducting a diligent investigation that ensured the successful conviction and lengthy sentence.
