David Klaaste (22) was recently sentenced in the Northern Cape High Court for the rape of a 14 year old girl and the murder of a 15 year old boy, in October 2015.
The two incidents occurred within minutes of each other in Prieska, Northern Cape.
The body of the 15 year old boy, known as Enrico Neels was found in a ditch near Gariep High School, Klaaste alleged that deceased and his friends robbed him of R2, prior to the murder.
Magistrate Bulelwa Pakati sentenced Klaaste to 12 years imprisonment for the murder and 15 years imprisonment for the rape.
The sentences will run concurrently.
The Cluster Commander for Pixley Ka Seme, Brigadier Nomahlubi Sofika lauded D/WO Louis Du Plessis (Prieska Detectives) and D/Const Denzil Swarts (Prieska Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit) for a sterling job done with regard to the investigations, especially as this sentences came during the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.
