The Northern Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Henriette De Waal welcomed the outstanding sentences handed down in the Postmasburg Regional court on 18 December 2020, to two rapists as the country is advocating against gender based violence.

D/Sgt Dawid Mongaka secured outstanding sentences including one life sentence for two of his cases.

In the first case, Dwayne Pieterse (23) was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for rape; 15 years for rape with a bottle neck and 5 years for assault after he sexually assaulted and raped a 10-year-old boy on 18 June 2017 in a veld area near Lohatlha.

In the second case, the accused Patrick Legodu (34) received life imprisonment after he raped a 20-year-old female on 29 September 2017 at approximately 23:00 in a cemetery in Danielskuil. The accused then took her to a shack where he raped her a second time.

The same accused was also linked with DNA to a rape case investigated by D/Warrant officer Deborah Bob. The 26-year-old female was raped in a veld area in Kuilsville in Danielskuil on 01 January 2017 and was arrested.

He received life imprisonment for the two rape cases.

The Provincial Head of the FCS units in the province, Brig Nicky Mills applauded the two Investigating officers for the outstanding sentences received which led to the incarceration of the two perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
