Two family members were imprisoned for raping a mentally challenged 53-year-old woman.

In June 2016, the accused took turns to rape the victim. On the day of the incident the two walked with the victim to a nearby tavern in Peter’s ham village and along the way they held the victim and raped her.

The Mothibistad Regional Court, found accused number 1 guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, on a count of rape. Accused number 2 is already serving 15 years imprisonment on a count of rape.

The Mothibistad Regional Court has declared the pair unfit to possess firearms, and their names are recorded in the sexual offenders register.

The Northern Cape Police Management applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Tebogo Nowalaza, for the commitment and dedication he displayed during the investigation.
