18 Year sentence for brutal murder of girl (16), Douglas

On 7 February 2020, the Kimberley High Court sentenced Rodrich Riaan Francke to 18 years imprisonment for murdering a 16-year-old girl.

On 2 June 2019, a 16-year-old victim was reported missing and her body was discovered on 6 June 2019, in a veld at Breipaal near Douglas. The half-naked body which had a throat cut was discovered by the Police Search and Rescue Team.

A case of murder was opened and Francke was arrested on the same day. Sergeant Jacobus Frans April of Douglas detectives conducted a meticulous investigation that ensured that Francke is denied bail and stays behind bars until his sentencing.

He was found guilty and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murder, 12 months for theft of cellphone and 9 months for defeating the ends of justice. All sentences will run concurrently.

The Provincial Management has welcomed the sentence and applaud the investigating officer and the community that assisted with the case since from the beginning when the victim was reported missing.
