A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Fraserburg Regional Court for the murder of a another man, Northern Cape said on Monday.
Police spokesperson Lt-Col Dimakatso Mooi said Edwin Stanley Klaaste was sentenced on Friday, for the murder of 21-year-old Riaan De Bruin. De Bruin was murdered on December 5, 2015, at a farm near Fraseburg.
“According to information received, Klaaste saw his ex-girlfriend in bed together with the De Bruin and out of jealousy; he started attacking the deceased with an axe. Even after the De Bruin ran away, Klaaste persuaded him and continued to assault him with the axe,” Mooi said.
“De Bruin was rushed to hospital and that is where he succumbed to his injuries. Klaaste was arrested at the scene and has since been in custody.”
