12 Year sentence for Rietfontein tavern murder

Francios Visagie was found guilty and sentenced to twelve years direct imprisonment in the Upington Regional Court.

He was found guilty and sentenced on Tuesday, 18 October 2021 in connection with the murder of Michael Mouton.

In November 2019 Michael and his brother were seated at a local tavern in Rietfontein, when Francios wrestled them over a Hooka Pipe. The argument subsided and later Francois restarted it.

During the argument Francios fatally stabbed Michael in the upper body. Michael left the tavern and ran home, where he later died as a result of the stab wound inflicted.

The Northern Cape Police Management applauded the investigating officer Sergeant JAM Tyres and the team for meticulous investigative work, which led to accused’s incarceration.
