The police in Ganyesa arrested a 37 year old alleged rapist on Monday 5 March 2018, during the night.

This arrest came after a 71 year old woman, staying alone in her house, was allegedly raped in Thokoza Section, Ganyesa at approximately 21:30.

The suspect gained entry into her house by breaking the sitting room window. He allegedly grabbed the victim and raped her. The victim screamed for help and was rescued by her neighbours who apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police.

The suspect appeared before the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 7 March 2018 and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday, 4 April 2018.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane expressed her appreciation for the cooperation between the police and the community that resulted in the arrest of the suspect as well as the assistance given to the vulnerable elderly woman.

She urged the members of the community to take care of the elderly.
