The investigating officer in the case where Anish (30) and Joey (32) van Niekerk from Mooinooi disappeared and were possibly murdered started giving evidence in the Brits Magistrates court.

Six men and two women are facing charges of conspiracy to murder, murder, Kidnapping, rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances and house breaking and theft.

State prosecutor Christine Molautsi called her second witness Colonel Isaac Tlhapi of the Mooinooi police to give evidence against the accused’s bail application. “The two victims were murdered by people they knew. They were drawn into a trap by one of the accused that they had confidence in, they were raped, murdered and burnt” he said.

He further stated that the police have sufficient evidence to link all 8 accused to the case.

Joey and Anisha were last seen on 10 December at approximately 07:30 in the Mooinooi area where they lived on a smallholding. They were on route to Pretoria to attend Joey’s fathers memorial but they never arrived.

The state is waiting on the DNA results on the remains discovered.
