The fight against sexual offences gained another victory in the province when two men were sentenced in separate incidents of rapes to 15 and 10 years imprisonment by Mmabatho Magistrates’ Court.
In a first incident, a 26 year old Onalenna Surprise Seitsang was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after he raped a 20 year old woman on Sunday, 7 April 2017.
It was reported at the time of the incident that victim was at a certain hotel when she went to the toilet. She was approached by the accused who and raped her inside the toilet. The accused was arrested after the incident was reported to the police.
In another incident, a 22 year old woman who was en route from her aunt’s place on her way home when she met a 20 year old Ompolokile Motshegare at about 19:00 on Friday, 7 July 2017. The accused dragged the victim to the nearby bushes and raped her. The rape case was opened and the suspect was arrested.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane congratulated Mmabatho Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for securing the sentences.
She said that the police will continue to work hard so that those who commit crimes are successfully prosecuted.
