On Monday, 30 April 2018, 10 suspects are expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court for two counts of murder, four of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions.
The suspects’ court appearance follows their arrest on Saturday, 28 April 2018 after police received information about two vehicles that were on the way to Hartbeesfontein from Khuma.
According to the information received when the suspects’ vehicle was stopped, the police were making follow up on information that five people were shot at Extension 11, Khuma outside Stilfontein on Saturday, 28 April 2018 at about 20:00.
It is alleged two victims who were neighbours, a 40 year old man and 30 year old woman died during the incident.
According to information at police disposal, the neighbours were relaxing at home when they heard gunshots and went to investigate. The suspects allegedly shot at them and fled the scene. The 40 year old man was certified dead at the scene while the 30 year old neighbour died on her way to the hospital.
The motive of the incident is still unknown and investigation into the matter continues.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident. She applauded the Klerksdorp Cluster’s swift reaction that led to the arrest of the suspects.
