Two accused, namely, Morone Mosofenyane (21) and Pone Modinzwa (29) were remanded in custody until 10 April 2019, for a formal bail application when they appeared in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court on 4 April 2019, for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The accused’s court appearance emanated from their apprehension on Tuesday 2 April 2019, in Ventersdorp. Police were on duty when they stopped a suspicious blue Honda with Lesotho registration number along the N14 road for a search.

During the search, the police found four 9mm pistols and ammunition wrapped in a white t-shirt. Three of the five occupants ran away from the scene and evaded arrest. Investigation into the matter continues.

The acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj General Ryno Naidoo commended members for the arrest and confiscation of firearms that are used to commit serious and violent crimes.
