The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded three off-duty police officers for working together to apprehend a 32-year-old rape suspect on Sunday, 5 June 2022.

It is alleged that the suspect, driving in a Mazda sedan, met two girls, aged 11 and 12, on Sunday, 29 May 2022, at Tower Mall, Jouberton and lured them to his parental place in Extension 22. He allegedly raped one of the girls while the other managed to escape.

The escaped girl allegedly went back to the place the following morning to fetch her dress, but the suspect chased them away.

Unbeknown to the suspect, the girls had already narrated the incident to one of the residents. The incident was reported to the girls’ parents who in turn, reported it to the police for investigation.

on Saturday, 4 June 2022, according to information, one of the girls’ fathers then engaged and shared the matter to a police officer who is on vacation leave.

The member followed up and sought assistance from two other police officers who were on rest days. The trio traced the suspect’s and eventually arrested him at his place on Sunday, 5 June 2022.

Investigation into the matter continues.

Meanwhile, the suspect is expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 June 2022, for rape.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena thanked the members for their commitment and displaying service excellence which resulted in the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
