Sunnyboy Richard Smith (27) and Seun Joseph Seotimeng (22) were both found guilty for murder and sentenced by the North West High Court on Wednesday, 5 December 2018.

The sentence stems from an incident that occurred in July 2017 at Ipelegeng Location near Schweizer-Reneke. Police were called on Saturday, 29 July 2017, to Schweizer-Reneke Hospital where they were informed about the death of Ike Boikie Seotimeng (24). The latter died after being stabbed numerous times by members of a gang.

A thorough investigation conducted by Const Ditlhokwe of Ipelegeng Detectives led to the arrest and subsequent sentencing of the accused.

Sunnyboy Richard Smith was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and eight years imprisonment for attempted murder. Both sentences will run concurrently. Seun Joseph Seotimeng was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for murder and six years for attempted murder. The sentences will also run concurrently.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended Constable Ditlhokwe and other role players including prosecution for their cooperation and hard work that led to the conviction. She said that the sentence will send a clear message that the police will not hesitate to deal effectively with those who commit crime including gang related incidents such as this one.
