Two men have been arrested for possession of stolen copper cable worth over R300,000 in Marikana near Rustenburg, North West police said on Saturday.
Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said the two were arrested by the police in Marikana on Friday. A Lonmin mine security official was also arrested.
“The two men, aged 29 and 40, were arrested near Maditlhokwa bridge in Marikana. Copper cables were found inside a Toyota Quantum. Other suspects managed to evade arrest but police are following leads to arrest them.”
“The copper cables were stolen from Lonmin mine in Marikana. The suspects, a South African and a Mozambican national, are due to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.”
