Two arrested for having stolen property in Rustenburg

Two men were arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and suspected stolen property and housebreaking implements in Phokeng near Rustenburg on Friday, North West police said.

“The arrests came after police conducting a routine patrol spotted and stopped a suspicious white Toyota Quantum with North West registration number [plates], Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

While the officers were searching the minibus and its with five occupants, three of the occupants fled the scene. “It was during the search that the police found a pistol with 10 [rounds of] ammunition.”

Police also found a crowbar, chisel, knife, and three balaclavas in the vehicle. The firearm was reported stolen in Cape Town in October 2001. The suspects, both Lesotho nationals, were expected to appear in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” Mokgwabone said.
