Transnet goods train derailed in North West

Yesterday a tent under which Social Develooment Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu had an activity with about 500 young women in attendance, in the premises of Motsitlane Primary School at Madibogo village, was blown by strong winds, followed by a heavy rainfall.

Five children were injured while the Deputy Minister escaped unharmed. The incident occurred between 13:00 and 14:00.

In another incident, members of the community are unable to cross over and or and travel between Tlhaping Section and Madibogo Station due a heavy rainfall. One of the local bridges was covered by water and that affected local flow of traffic. No injuries were reported in this incident.

In the third incident, a Transnet goods train travelling from Kimberley to Mahikeng with three occupants allegedly hit a cow that was on the railway line and two locomotives derailed.

One of the occupants is reported to be dead. At the time of the incident, the railway line was also covered by water. The train trucks are not affected.

EMRS, SAPS including Divers and Transnet officials attended to the scene.
