The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, has welcomed the sentence handed down recently by the Bafokeng Regional Court in Tlhabane to Ratanang William Moitshodi (28).

The accused sentencing emanates from an incident on 26 January 2019 wherein he allegedly raped a then 22-year-old woman in Bethel Section, Lefaragatlhe in Tlhabane.

Following the incident, the matter was reported to the police and Moitshodi was traced and arrested a few days later.

He was found guilty on a charge of rape and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on Thursday, 20 January 2022. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Christopher Maimela of Rustenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit and all those involved, including the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for the sterling job.
