Three held for alleged theft of batteries worth R120,000 in NWest

Three men have been arrested for allegedly stealing batteries worth R120,000 in Sutelong near Hammanskraal, North West police said on Sunday.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said police in Bedwang arrested the men in the early hours of Thursday.

“It is alleged that the police were alerted about an alarm at Sutelong Tower near Black Rock. The police responded quickly and upon arrival at the tower they saw six suspects loading ACME-T batteries as well as rectifier into a bakkie. According to information, three suspects fled and evaded arrest while the other three were arrested. A total of 12 ACME-T batteries worth R120,000 were found.”

The men, aged between 26 and 35, were expected to appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court in Temba on Monday on a charge of business burglary and possession of suspected stolen goods.
