Nine male suspects aged between 21 and 56 are expected to appear in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 31 December 2020 for possession of suspected stolen copper cables.

This is after the suspects were arrested as part of the ongoing Safer Festive Season Operations on Tuesday morning, 29 December 2020, in Morogong village, outside Sun City.

According to information received, a group of men who presumably stole copper cables at Horizon Chrome mine in Tlhatlhaganyane. On following up, the police spotted and stopped a brown Mercedes Benz and a white Toyota Corolla vehicles at Morogong village. Both vehicles and the occupants were searched and copper cables suspected to be stolen at the mine with an estimated value of R50 000.00 were found. The suspects were arrested and the copper cables as well as the two vehicles were seized.

Subsequent to receiving further information, a suspicious white Mazda vehicle was stopped on the R565 road towards Matooster. During the search, copper cables with estimated value of R20 000.00 were found in the back of the vehicle. As a result, three suspects aged between 27 and 35 were arrested and they are also expected to appear in court.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the members for their swift reaction, dedication and vigilance which led to the arrest.
