Taxi operator arrested with array of firearms, Boitekong

On 17 July 2019, John Kgaogelo Motllhamme (32), a taxi operator, appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and negligent handling of a firearm. The case was postponed till Monday, 22 July 2019, for a formal bail application and he will remain in custody.

On Monday, 15 July 2019, at 22:00 an intelligence driven operation at a house in Sunrise Park, Boitekong, was conducted after information was received. Upon arrival at the house the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed rifle, magazine and ammunition. Members conducted a search and a second pistol with ammunition were found under the suspect’s pillow, but he produced a valid licensed for the pistol.

A white Iveco Sprinter, parked outside the house, was also search which led to the recovery of a pistol and a magazine under the seat of the vehicle.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane said that the police will continue with their commitment of reducing the levels of serious crimes to ensure a safer tomorrow.
