A 23-year-old man who is currently under police guard in hospital, is expected to appear soon in the Taung Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder.

The suspect’ court appearance emanates from his arrest on Friday, 4 December 2020, after he allegedly stabbed and killed a 30-year-old woman at a tavern in Lokaleng village, Taung. According to reports, the suspect stabbed the woman with a knife on the neck.

The victim died while in transit to hospital. The suspect was also taken to hospital after being assaulted by two males who saw him stabbing the victim.

The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage and investigation into the matter continues.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena condemned the incident which occurred within the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children. At the same time, Lieutenant General Kwena lauded the police for quick response which resulted in the arrest of the alleged perpetrator. He also urged members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
