Suspect in custody for possession of explosives, NW

The North West Serious Organised Crime unit has arrested a 33 year old mine employee on Saturday 19 May 2018, for illegal possession of explosives.

The suspect from Boiketlong was arrested following a disruptive operation after information surfaced that the suspect was allegedly intending to sell explosives to a potential buyer. He was found in possession of 59 explosives when he was cornered by Hawks members. The suspect’s home was subsequently searched where additional explosives were discovered.

The suspect is expected to appear at Rustenburg Magistrate Court on today to face a charge of Illegal possession of explosives.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in North West, Major General Linda Mbana welcomed the arrest and applauded the investigating officers for their sterling work, “we will continue with this kind of operations as we are proactive to minimise cash in transit within the province” she added.
