Suspect arrested with illegal firearms, Klerksdorp

A disruptive operation by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Illicit Mining Team resulted in the arrest of one male suspect on Friday, 12 February 2021 in Klerksdorp at about 18:30 for unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The suspect was apprehended after members conducted a search of a shack near the Klerksdorp dumping site. During the search, 53 x 9mm live ammunition and three 9mm pistols with magazines were found.

The suspect in his late 20’s is expected to appear soon in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The District Commissioner of Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Major General Suzette Pretorius commended the team for the arrest and confiscation of the firearms she said are frequently used during illicit mining activities and commission of serious crimes.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is investigating.
