A 23-year-old suspect will appear in the Lehurutshe Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 July 2017 for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
According to information, police at Swartkopfontein Port of Entry were on a routine duties on Thursday, 13 July 2017 when they noticed a man hitchhiking at the cross junction at Moshana village near Zeerust.
On approaching him, he informed the police that he was going to Botswana.
The police searched him and his luggage. It was during the search that the suspect ran away, but the police managed to chase and catch him.
He was eventually arrested after failing to account for a firearm and sixty four ammunition that were found inside his bag.
Preliminary investigation, revealed that the suspect was taking the firearm and ammunition to Botswana.
